Round Float · Short Ladder · Submersible Pump

The “Compact Catamaran” suction dredger combines the proven design of our “Open Catamaran” with the advantages of a dredge pump positioned directly below the water surface. The result is a high-performance catamaran with cylindrical pontoons that demonstrates its strengths particularly in applications requiring optimal suction performance, high process reliability, and dependable automated operation.

The “Compact Catamaran” is essentially based on the well-established design of our “Open Catamaran”, which has proven itself over many years of operation. The key advancement is a compact ladder structure with the dredge pump mounted at its lower end. This allows the pump to operate directly underwater, driven by a standard industrial motor via a short shaft assembly.

By positioning the pump underwater, the required suction lift is reduced to a minimum. This creates particularly favourable conditions on the suction side and ensures reliable and consistent suction performance. Especially under varying operating conditions, this concept offers significant advantages and provides a stable foundation for a continuous pumping process.

The KUR type also offers additional possibilities in terms of automating dredging operations. Thanks to the pump’s defined position below the water surface, automated operating sequences can be implemented more easily and with greater process reliability. This supports extended periods of continuous operation while simultaneously reducing the need for operator intervention.

To safely accommodate the additional weight of the ladder structure, submerged pump, and shaft assembly, the side pontoons have been appropriately sized and adapted to the increased buoyancy requirements compared to the “Open Catamaran”. The proven fundamental design principle of the cylindrical pontoon catamaran remains fully intact.

A key element of our design philosophy continues to be the open and maintenance-friendly construction. The motor, drive components, and other equipment remain easily accessible, allowing maintenance, inspection, and servicing work to be carried out quickly and safely. Operators also benefit from the use of a standard industrial motor, ensuring excellent availability of components and straightforward maintenance.

As with the Type E, the KUR type can be supplied in various configurations and individually tailored to the specific application. This includes the dimensions and pump equipment, as well as the power supply, control and automation systems, and the design of the operator and control stations.

The “Compact Catamaran” therefore combines the robust and proven foundation of the “Open Catamaran” with the operational advantages of a submerged dredge pump. The result is a flexible suction dredger concept for demanding applications where reliable suction performance, process stability, and a high degree of automation are essential.
